Get well. Stay well. Be well!
Hawthorne Wellness Center offers a broad spectrum of integrated, evidence-based healthcare disciplines, as well as movement classes, to help our community get well, stay well, and be well.
In our interdisciplinary setting, individual patient needs are paramount and care is patient-centered. Our goal is to promote health and recovery from illness and injury by drawing on the collective knowledge and resources of our experienced healthcare providers. We offer a nurturing environment where all patients are encouraged to take responsibility for their own well-being in partnership with their physicians.
In the winter of 2005, after 20 years of operating in the Hawthorne neighborhood as Ancina Chiropractic Clinic at S.E. 34th and Hawthorne, we expanded our services and moved to a bright new facility. Our unique, multifaceted healthcare clinic blossomed as Hawthorne Wellness Center. Retaining the friendly, neighborhood character of the previous clinic, Hawthorne Wellness Center currently offers acupuncture, chiropractic care, family medicine, massage therapy, and naturopathic care. A studio behind the clinic houses some of the best movement instructors in Pilates, yoga, and tai chi in the Portland area. Free offstreet parking for both cars and bicycles is also available.
Enjoy a tour of our website to learn more about our services, providers, and classes. You can also schedule an appointment or view our on-line class schedules.

Summer at last!
We’re wishing everyone lots of sunshine after that long, wet spring – here’s what’s new at HWC…
Dr. Bruce Chaser has recently been elected a board member of the Portland Actors Conservatory (http://www.actorsconservatory.com/). Portland Actors Conservatory is a nationally accredited school for acting with a 25-year record of artistic excellence. The two-year conservatory style program is the only one of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, attracting students nationally and internationally.
The Conservatory is a major contributor to the performing arts community in the region. Graduates can be seen on all the professional stages in Portland, and on stages throughout the country as well as on television and in films. The Conservatory is in the process of turning their accredited two-year program into a Master of Fine Arts degree.
In case you haven’t seen any of our talented LMT’s recently you may not have heard of Gua Sha. Gua Sha is an ancient healing technique used by many types of practitioners for a variety of presentations. It is particularly good at breaking up fibrotic adhesions & getting the Chi or Qi flowing (for those into Eastern terminology). We recently had an in-house seminar on Gua Sha for LMTs and hope to offer more in the future. Contact Lynn Short or Carly Samish at the clinic for more info.
Speaking of Qi, in August Dr. Shay Hosseinion, with his wife Eva, will be studying Classical Chinese Medicine, Qigong, and Five Element Emotional Healing for 3 weeks in the Jiashan Zen Monastery in Hunan, China!
Also, don’t forget the Hawthorne Street Fair is this August 15th. This year it will coincide with SE Sunday Parkways Program and is guaranteed to be lots of fun for everyone. Click here for more details about the Parkways program and see a map of streets being closed to non-human powered vehicles during the festival!
If you haven’t visited our beautiful movement arts studio behind the wellness center you are missing out. We are once again offering Tai Chi and are now offering Feldenkrais at the studio in addition to our ongoing Yoga, Pilates and Martial Arts classes. Most class instructors are currently offering 2 free introductory classes to all HWC patients so if you see or have seen one of the practitioners here check out the online schedule and get involved in any of the movement classes being offered!
Continued best wishes and good health to all!
